Otterbein University used a quick scoring spurt to take an early 6-1 lead, and then continued to pull away, dealing The College of Wooster an 11-4 setback Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference men's lacrosse match-up at Westerville, Ohio.

The Cardinals (6-4) scored the game's initial two goals to go up 2-0, but the Scots (6-7) responded when Mike Perrino made it a one-goal game (2-1) with 2:42 to go in the first period. Moments later, Otterbein's Eric Garris pumped in back-to-back scores in just over a minute to push his squad's cushion to 4-1.

Early in the second period, Otterbein added another pair of goals to complete its mini-run that spanned only 6:12. Trailing by five (6-1), the Scots cut into the deficit courtesy of go-to scorer, Matt Ranck, who beat the 'keeper to make it 6-2. That was as close as Wooster got to getting back into the game, though, as the Cardinals rifled in the final two goals of the half to extend their advantage further (8-2).

Ranck and Patrick Schlick each added goals in the third period, but besides that, the Scots were held in check, and only attempted four shots in the final stanza.

Three of Wooster's goals came during man-up situations, where it went 3-for-7. Otterbein was unable to take advantage of its five man-up opportunities.

Goalkeeper Matt Magoon made 13 saves, marking his seventh game this season reaching double-digits in that category. Perrino and Tom Herold paced the team in groundballs with five each, and Nick Spittle was credited with two caused turnovers.

The Scots will visit North Coast Athletic Conference rival Wittenberg University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
