The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team and Capital University entered the fourth quarter knotted at 10-10, but the Scots played lockdown defense and scored two goals to claim a 12-10 victory Wednesday night.

Cooper Pewitt gave Wooster the one-goal lead with 9:17 remaining, and Drake Nickolaison gave the Scots breathing room when Charlie Ballou found the sophomore with three minutes left to put Wooster ahead by two.

Nickolaison tied for a game-high four goals, and Pewitt added three goals.

Capital opened the game with a 2-0 lead, but Wooster closed the final 1:46 of the first quarter with four goals - two from Nickolaison, one from Ballou and another with five seconds remaining from Joe Citera.

Wooster then built that lead to four by halftime at 7-3 as Ted Wells and Cullen Kuhn got in the scoring action, along with Pewitt's first goal.

The teams reversed roles in the third quarter as Wells and Nickolaison scored two early goals to put Wooster up 9-3. However, Capital would finish the quarter with a 7-1 advantage to tie the game at 10 entering the final quarter.

CJ Hughes scored four goals and dished out two assists to lead the Crusaders.

Wesley Wagner made 13 saves to collect his second win of the year.

Ollie Jimba was 11-for-24 in faceoffs. Wooster finished 18-for-22 in clear attempts and outshot the Crusaders (2-3) 41-35.

Wooster improves to 2-1 after collecting their second straight win. Last year, they fell at Capital 12-9.

The Scots return to Papp Stadium at 1 p.m. Sunday when they host John Carroll University.
