Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: Wooster has given me the unique opportunity to play the sport I love with a great group of guys while receiving a fantastic education. Wooster guarantees an unparalleled research experience and provided me with many opportunities to prepare myself for medical school.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: I am blessed to be able to compete on the field each day with a such a hardworking group and play alongside my best friends.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I have had many great memories at Wooster. I will never forget all the great moments I have hanging out with my boys: Connor Mangan, Daniel Fleming, and Ted Wells. Scoring my first goal against Oberlin College on a Friday night with my whole family in town was another fantastic moment on campus. One of the greatest moments of all though was when I took down the entire beginner golf class single-handedly after being down one with two (holes) to play. Some call it the "greatest comeback" in match play history.
Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete is getting to compete in the sport I love at the highest amateur level. Additionally, being a student-athlete at Wooster has introduced me to great people with whom I have created life-long friendships.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a peer tutor, a health coach through The Community Care Network, president of our Tri-Beta (biology honor society) chapter, and I am the student pre-med advisor.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: I have received a great education overall. I would say that Dr. (Mark) Snider has had the greatest impact on me. He has truly helped me become a scientist. As a result of his tutelage, I have developed a working knowledge of science and learned to study in a way that has prepared me to enter medical school next year. The attention and guidance he's provided as my Independent Study mentor is unparalleled and I would not be where I am today without him.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: The opportunities to participate in programs and activities at Wooster provided a well-rounded education experience. As a result, not only have I succeeded at Wooster, but those experiences helped me distinguish myself from other candidates during the medical school application process.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am studying the kinetic mechanism of an enzyme in a bacterial metabolic pathway with an alternative substrate. Positive results from my experiment will lead to insights into how we can engineer biological systems to decontaminate the environment in a safe and cost-effective manner.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Due to my academic success and experiences at Wooster, I was selected for the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship Program at Stanford University after my sophomore year. As a part of this program, I completed an independent research project at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park, California
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Appreciate every day, even the tough ones, because it will be over before you know it.
