Senior Salute: Shaun Peirce

Shaun Peirce sidebar q&a

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Shaun Peirce, a business economics major from North Attleboro, Massachusetts. Peirce is a member of the men's lacrosse team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster because of the ability to play competitive lacrosse at a school with a nice smaller campus and good reputation.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: It is a privilege to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete, and it has allowed me to grow a lot as a lacrosse player and person.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Some of my best memories have come during our team spring break trips, and getting the opportunity to play in Colorado, Connecticut, and Florida. Academically, my favorite memory was seeing how my Independent Study progressed across my junior year and into this year.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part of being a student-athlete is all the memories I've made with my teammates and getting the chance to compete on the field in a great conference.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I helped create a service program that volunteered at the Wayne County Humane Society.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: The staff member who has had the greatest impact on me is definitely Coach (P.J.) Kavanagh. No matter what was going on, good or bad, he was always there to support me and spread positivity.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Dr. (Melanie) Long and Professor (Moses) Luri have helped me tremendously throughout developing my Independent Study and other economics courses. APEX (Wooster's center for Advising, Planning, and Experiential Learning) has also been a positive resource in connecting me with useful information for resumes, careers, and difficult classes.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: For my I.S. project, I am examining the impact of casino expansion on local economic growth. Through a literature review, economic theory, and an empirical model, I am looking to find how casino gambling will affect the economy of counties in the United States.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: A couple cool opportunities that I have experienced as a student at Wooster are the spring break trips with the lacrosse team to Colorado and Florida and volunteering at the Humane Society. Getting to visit the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs and our beach trip in Florida are definitely memorable experiences.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Take courses in different majors and find your interests.
