Wooster Falls at Home Against Albion

Rowan Keesser, College of Wooster men's lacrosse WOOSTER, Ohio – Albion College took charge with a three-goal outburst just before halftime and went on to top The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team 20-5 on Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (1-3) was within 5-3 at the second period's 5:23 mark. First-year Will Fink found senior Ben Kennedy for the latter's sixth goal of the year. Wooster could not get any closer, with Albion's (4-0) Jace Conley starting the pre-halftime frenzy at the 2:52 mark. Goals from Sam Puzevic and Jace Conley followed, opening an 8-3 halftime cushion for Albion.

Junior Teddy Berner's first collegiate goal snapped the Britons' run of goals at 14 with 2:21 remaining in the game. Sophomore Jimmy Paranzino tucked in his first goal of the season before the final buzzer. Sophomore Ben Huntington logged Wooster's assists on the final two goals.

Wooster's bright spot came on faceoffs. First-year Rory Zahren won 16-of-21 and came up with the groundball on nine of them. Sophomore Jimmy Fisher went 5-of-8 down the stretch to give Wooster a 21-8 edge on the day. The duo combined for 13 of the Fighting Scots' 35 groundballs.

Sophomore Vinny DiLeo and Fink tallied Wooster's other goals on the day. Sophomore Paul Chandler made 14 saves and sophomore Seth Owens' two caused turnovers led the defense. Sophomore Rowan Keesser and first-year Bill Holtzer had the team-high in groundballs among non-faceoff specialists at three apiece.

Conley scored six goals and dished out four assists for a 10-point afternoon. Puzevic followed with four goals. Joey Tatar and Ethan Rottell were dominating defensive forces, combining for 13 groundballs and seven caused turnovers. Bradley Luketic turned aside seven shots in his half of action.

Albion outshot Wooster 67-22 and did a fine job taking care of the ball with just 13 turnovers. Wooster had 36 miscues and was just 14-of-25 on clear attempts.

Next, Wooster hosts North Central College (Illinois) at noon on Saturday, March 12.
