Men's Lacrosse Starts Strong But Falls To Wittenberg in NCAC Play

Vinny DiLeo The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team scored three unanswered to take a 4-3 lead after one quarter of play, but Wittenberg University bounced back for a 13-8 North Coast Athletic Conference win on Saturday.

Vinny DiLeo led the Scots and the game with four goals. He also scored the game's first goal within the first two minutes.

Wittenberg responded with three goals before Wooster did the same. Riley SchulzeBen Kennedy and Charlie Ballou scored to close the quarter for Wooster to retake a 4-3 lead.

Control went back to Wittenberg's side after scoring four in a row to pull ahead 7-4. DiLeo scored as time expired for the Scots to trail 7-5 at halftime.

The teams traded goals in the third. Ben Byars scored unassisted with 4:31 left, and DiLeo scored his third just nine seconds later.

Wittenberg led 9-7 after three quarters,and pulled away in the fourth. DiLeo scored his final goal with 11:20 remaining to make it 10-8. However, Wittenberg would score the game's final three goals.

Kody Gould and Julio Novarini each scored three goals to lead the Tigers.

Wooster keeper Paul Chandler made 11 saves in the losing effort. Wooster outshot the Tigers 44-43.

Wooster won 17-of-25 faceoffs behind Jimmy FisherMason Poisson caused three turnovers, and Fisher tallied a game-high seven ground balls.

The Scots move to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference. Wittenberg wins its third straight and moves to 4-9 overall and 4-3 in the NCAC.

Wooster will travel to Allegheny College on Tuesday.
