Steffen Tabbed for USILA Team of the Week

Casey Steffen, Wooster lacrosse The College of Wooster's Casey Steffen caused plenty of havoc on the lacrosse field last week, and the Fighting Scots' junior defender scored United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Team of the Week honors, as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.

Steffen averaged 5.0 groundballs and 4.5 caused turnovers during Wooster's 2-0 week, which saw the Scots improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2014 following 14-7 and 14-8 wins over Capital University and State University of New York Brockport, respectively. Steffen forced five turnovers and vacuumed up seven groundballs in the win over Capital, with two of the caused turnovers occurring among the four times Wooster scored within 20 seconds of the Comets turning the ball over. He followed that up with four caused turnovers and three groundballs against Brockport.

Steffen has 17 caused turnovers and 19 groundballs through four games this spring. He has the sixth-most caused turnovers within NCAA Div. III through games played March 6 and ranks fourth nationally in caused turnovers per game among players with at least two games played.

Steffen is Wooster's first USILA Team of the Week honoree since Jimmy Fisher earned the award as a first-year in 2021.

Wooster is at Albion College (4-0) for a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 8.
