Casey Steffen

USILA Release

Junior Casey Steffen added to his accolade list Wednesday after being named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Honorable Mention.

Steffen becomes the sixth Scot to be named to the USILA All-America Team and the first since 2010 when midfielder Pat Coyne was named an honorable mention.

Steffen, a two-time USILA DIII Team of the Week member, appeared and started in all 17 games for Wooster, leading them to a 13-4 record. The 13 wins set a new single season high for Wooster, which included a program best 11-0 start to the year.

Steffen is lined up to hold the Division III single season record in caused turnovers per game at 5.06 upon the conclusion of the NCAA Div. III Championships. He totaled 86 on the year, which not only led Division III but ranked third-most all time.

His 12 caused turnover game against Wittenberg University helped get him there, which broke the program's single game record.

The total also was the top mark in the North Coast Athletic Conference and more than doubled Wooster's old program record of 40 set by Ethan Scully in 2019.

In addition, Steffen's 82 ground balls are the seventh-most in single season program history. He also tallied 12 points on three goals and nine assists.

He helped Wooster to top statistical categories as well in Division III. Wooster's caused turnovers per game and ground balls per game currently rank third in all of Division III, while the Fighting Scots opponent clear percentage of 62.7 percent leads the nation.

Earlier this month, Steffen was named the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year to go along with his first-team selection.
