Senior Salute: Jimmy Fisher
Senior is a member of the men's lacrosse team
Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Jimmy Fisher, an environmental geoscience major from Granville, Ohio. Fisher is a member of the men's lacrosse team.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I wanted a small college with small class sizes where I could play lacrosse and receive a quality education.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a student-athlete at Wooster means an opportunity to grow life skills like leadership, people, and accountability.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories are spending time with teammates, making the most of our start during COVID, spending countless nights together, and the many laughs at practice.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is the relationships you gain from spending so much time with each other.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Shelley Judge has opened my mind to the world of earth materials and geographic information systems. Dr. Judge has been someone who has always been there for me and made sure I stayed on the right track.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Dr. Drew Pasteur was a professor I had during COVID who made Wooster welcoming. Dr. Pasteur was very helpful in making sure my time here started off on the right foot.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My I.S. is an erosion study of my family farm. I investigated if a combination of an increase in precipitation and lack of tile upkeep contributed to an increase in soil erosion. I tracked soil moisture, rate of flow, and sent soil samples to a lab to receive soil texture data.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Through Wooster I was able to get into contact with alumni who are working in my field of interest. With these connections, I landed an internship at Geotechnical Consultants Inc. and have been offered a position there after graduation.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: I would tell my first-year self to take a deep breath and trust the process. If you are willing to work hard, the faculty and staff will work with you to find what you enjoy and make sure you are successful.
