Senior Salute - Grant Rivera
Biochemistry and molecular biology major is member of men's lacrosse team
Our "Senior Salute" series continues with Grant Rivera from the men's lacrosse team. Rivera is a biochemistry and molecular biology major from Winter Park, Florida.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster because of the strong academics and competitive athletics.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means being a well-rounded individual who can compete in the classroom and on the field.
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: The bus rides to away games and late-night study sessions.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part is the lifelong friends I have made.
Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am a member of the pre-health club and am a health coach with the College's partnership with the Wooster Community Hospital Community Care Network.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Mark Snider because he has taught me so much both in the classroom and in the lab. He has been a great mentor throughout the Independent Study process and always provides kind and helpful guidance.
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am using DNA modification to determine the NADH binding location in the bacterial enzyme NicC via steady-state kinetics.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: We went to Orlando, Florida, near my hometown, for our team spring break trip when I was a first-year. We did lots of fun activities, like go to the beach, axe throwing, and miniature golf, and won our game against then-undefeated Western Connecticut State University.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Do not take the small moments with your friends for granted.
