Kellogg Scores Seven Goals at Otterbein
Junior's total tied for sixth-most in program history
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – An All-American Will Fink-to-Lane Kellogg score had The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team within 10-8 in the fourth quarter, but Otterbein University scored three straight to close out its 13-9 win over the Fighting Scots on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium.
Kellogg, Wooster's (1-2) star junior attacker, had the Scots within two at 8-6, 9-7, and 10-8. Fink, a senior, dished out the assist on the 10-8 score with 9:45 to go in the contest. Senior Rory Zahren was the assisting Scot on the other two Kellogg scores that had Wooster within two.
Fink put Wooster on the board with a goal with 2:58 left in the first period, in what was the first score of the night. Otterbein (2-2) opened a 3-0 lead back on Feb. 26 before severe weather in the Westerville area caused a suspension of the game. Per NCAA halted game policies, Feb. 26 is the day of record for the contest since the game was underway.
Wooster found its footing early in the second on consecutive Kellogg goals that had Wooster within 4-3. He ended the night with a career-high seven goals, one better than the six scored in a 17-10 win over DePauw University last season. Of note, Kellogg's seven goals are tied for the sixth-most in program history and the top total since alumnus Vinny DiLeo dropped seven scores on Albion College in 2023.
Zahren, who passed out three assists, dominated in the faceoffs, winning 14-of-18, and his seven groundballs led all players. Sparked by contributions as a faceoff wing, senior Aidan Hyatt scooped up four groundballs.
First-year Case Lowery's 11 saves marked the starter's second double-digit effort of the season. He stopped three Otterbein shots in the first, second, and fourth periods, and two in the third.
Otterbein's Max Graham was the Cardinals' leading scorer with five goals. Sam Becker, who was ineffective in the faceoff department, evidenced by just eight wins on 23 chances, still managed to lead the Cardinals with five groundballs. Zach Courie played in goal upon the resumption and had 12 saves.
Next, Wooster hosts Albion (2-2) at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The game is the program's annual Faculty Appreciation Game.
