SALTSBURG, Pa. – The first of two neutral site men's lacrosse games on The College of Wooster's schedule did not go the Fighting Scots' way, as the team dropped a 17-11 contest to Messiah University at the Kiski School on Wednesday.
Junior Lane Kellogg joined the 100-goal club, becoming the 10th member. He also moved into the top-10 in career points on Wednesday. Kellogg dropped in six goals for his third game with at least six. Kellogg's six goals were one shy of his career-high of seven from the Otterbein University game earlier this season. Kellogg's six goals were followed by junior Rowan Piani's three.
Elsewhere, senior Rory Zahren won 17-of-25 faceoffs. Aided by first-year Domenic Cuda's play on the wing, the Wooster (3-4) duo combined for 13 of Wooster's 45 groundballs. First-year Case Lowery turned away 10 Messiah (2-5) shots.
Messiah's Bobby Berg turned in a 10-point performance with five goals and five assists. Standout play from Jourdain Algarin in goal resulted in an impressive 19 saves.
Wooster outshot Messiah 46-44 and won 21-of-34 faceoffs. Wooster went 16-of-20 on clears, while Messiah was 23-of-34.
Next, Wooster opens North Coast Athletic Conference play against Wittenberg University (3-2, 0-0 NCAC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 at John P. Papp Stadium.
