Scots Fall to Denison in Season Finale

WOOSTER, Ohio - Denison University's Peter Shorten dribbled toward the middle of the Wooster defense and scored just over midway through the second overtime, handing The College of Wooster a 2-1 loss Saturday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference play at Carl Dale Memorial Field. The Scots conclude their season at 6-10-1 overall and 3-6-0 in the NCAC, while Denison finishes at 6-8-3 and 3-5-1 in league play.

The Big Red put the pressure on early, and finally broke through first in the 35th minute when Ish Grodbane took a shot that Wooster goalkeeper Taylor Takacs made the save on, but couldn't gain control of the rebound. The loose ball found the feet of Len Mills, who tapped in into the lower left corner of the net.

Wooster, though, answered back in the 59th minute. Brenton Allen sent a pass from the left side of the field that was just out of the reach of Denison goalie Kevin Donahoe just over 25 yards from his net, as the Big Red netminder came out to challenge the pass by Allen. Karl Ruter raced up on the free ball and booted in his sixth goal of the campaign and 16th of his career.

The game remained that way with both teams have opportunities to seal the win both in regulation and the overtime periods, before Shorten converted the game-winner with 3:56 left in the second extra session.

Takacs was credited with six saves, while Donahue stopped four shots on goal for Denison.
