After anchoring a defensive unit that ranked second in the North
Coast Athletic Conference, allowing just over one goal per game
(1.35), College of Wooster freshman goalkeeper Taylor Takacs
(Gibsonia, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) was awarded with second-team
All-NCAC accolades, as announced by the conference office on
Wednesday.
Also receiving recognition were fellow Fighting Scots in junior
defender Jay Keener (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth) and junior
forward Scott Buckwald (Seville, Ohio / Cloverleaf), who each
received honorable mention on the All-NCAC Team.
On the pitch in 2008, Takacs took over the starting role in
Wooster's third game of the season. As the season progressed,
the first-year Scot adapted to the collegiate game quickly, leading
the league in both save percentage (.848) and saves per game
(5.25), while posting a 1.04 goals against average and two
shutouts.
Keener was once again a key contributor to one of the
league's stingiest units after being a second-team All-NCAC
honoree in 2007. In front of Takacs, he started 16 of 17 contests
and helped limit opposing teams to 1.35 goals and 16.23 shots per
game. Keener was matched up most of the time against the
opposition's premier scoring threat, limiting their scoring
opportunities.
Buckwald, a three-year starter, picks up his initial all-conference
award with the Scots. He ranked ninth in the NCAC in points per
game (1.06) on a team-high seven goals and four assists. Three of
his goals were game-winners, including scoring both goals in a 2-1
victory over Earlham College.
As a team, the Scots completed 2008 with a 6-10-1 overall record
and secured an eighth-place finish in the highly-competitive NCAC
(3-6-0).
