Jay Keener (Wadsworth, Ohio / Wadsworth), a junior at The College of Wooster, was selected to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team for men's soccer within the college division (NCAA Div. II and III, and NAIA), announced the College Sports Information Directors of America Wednesday. He's the second Wooster men's soccer player in three seasons to earn the prestigious honor, with Tim Presto being the other in 2006.

Keener was the Fighting Scots' top defender again in 2008. He helped the backfield limit the opposition to 23 goals – the second-lowest total in the North Coast Athletic Conference. For his efforts, Keener received his second career all-NCAC citation, honorable mention this fall after being a second-team pick last year. Keener has started 39 of 49 career matches, helping Wooster to a 23-21-5 record (.520).

In the classroom, Keener is a chemistry major and owns a near-perfect grade-point average. Also, he's active in the community, volunteering with Homework-4-Hoops, an outreach program to tutor and spend time with juveniles, and serving as the co-publicity coordinator of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.

Created in 1952, the Academic All-America Teams program now annually honors 816 male and female student-athletes who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
