Scots Fall in Heartbreaking Fashion for Second Straight Game

It was a slip-and-slide type of day as Andreas Xenofontos had to overcome
more than just the weather. Xenofontos scored his sixth goal on Saturday.

The College of Wooster men's soccer team suffered a second straight heartbreaker in a 3-2 loss to Oberlin College in double overtime on Saturday.

This came off the heels of last week's 2-1 loss to Kenyon College in which the game-winner was scored with just 0.4 left on the clock.

On Saturday, Wooster had controlled the majority of both overtimes until Jack McMillin scored in the 104th minute to give the Yeomen a much-needed North Coast Athletic Conference win.

McMillin took a shot near his own bench on the left side of the field, and it curved to fit just inside the right post and just out of reach of keeper Will Collis.

It was Oberlin's first and only shot of overtime in a game that saw steady rainfall throughout.

Wooster outshot Oberlin 4-1 in the overtime periods and 27-10 for the game. Dani Halbing had a couple headers almost go in, while shots from Andreas Xenofontos and Connor Hawkins were both denied.

Prior, both teams played to a scoreless first half until Oberlin scored in the 51st minute on a header from Eddie Aguayo. It took 24 minutes for Wooster to hit the equalizer when Xenofontos scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

However, that lead was short lived as Oberlin's goal leader in Nic Jandeleit scored three minutes later in the 78th minute. Wooster had the answer again in the 82nd minute when BJ Tally found Max Hill for the score.

Wooster had seven corners to Oberlin's three. Collis made four saves while his counterpart Fiachra McDonagh collected 10.

Both teams now sit at 7-9 overall, but Oberlin moves to 4-3 with 12 points in the conference to move ahead of Wooster who is 3-4 with nine points.

The Scots return to Carl Dale Field on Wednesday when they face Allegheny College in a must-win game in their home finale.
