Scots Downed 4-1 in Home Finale

Manny Burton fights off an Allegheny defender during Wednesday's loss.

Allegheny College came to Carl Dale Field on Wednesday and handed The College of Wooster men's soccer team a 4-1 loss in their home finale.

Playing in rainy conditions, the Scots could not find much success against the Gators as only one of their 22 shots found the back of the net.

Allegheny opened scoring in the 32nd minute when Matt Massucci scored off an assist from Jorge Olan. The Gators took that lead into halftime and quickly made it a 2-0 game in the second half with a goal from Owen Harkins in the 48th minute. Allegheny was awarded a penalty kick just outside the goal box, and Harkins connected on a strike.

Wooster got right back in it in the 50th minute as senior Max Rochester found classmate Manny Burton for the score. It was Burton's fifth goal of the year and Rochester's second assist.

Before Wooster could climb back in further, Allegheny connected on another goal in the 55th minute. This time Danny Reid scored off an assist from Olan.

The hole got deeper in the 65th minute with another goal from the Gators as a strike from Ryan Clydesdale went just out of reach of keeper Will Collis.

Speaking of Collis, the senior made five saves in the loss. His counterpart, Jack Barron-Sluga collected 11 saves.

Wooster outshot Allegheny 22-17 and could not capitalize on a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Wooster falls to 7-10 overall and 3-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference after dropping its third straight game. Allegheny moves to 4-12-1 overall and 2-6 in the NCAC. The Gators came into the contest with just three goals in conference play this season.

The Scots will travel to Denison University on Saturday for their regular season finale.
