ANGOLA, Ind. -- Senior Max Wiley scored the game winner in the 19th minute, and his goal was enough for The College of Wooster men's soccer team to take 1-0 win at Trine University in the team's season opener on Friday.
Wiley's goal was on Wooster's second shot of the day as he scored high in the center of the net. Overall, Wooster took just 10 shots and was even outshot by the Thunder 12-10.
Wooster got a shutout performance from goalkeeper Andrew Beazley, who made four saves. It was his third career shutout performance after collecting a pair last year.
Trine struggled offensively as Tyler Murphy, the program's all-time leading scorer, graduated a year ago.
Wooster had three shots on goal to Trine's four. Wooster also had four corner kick opportunities to Trine's five.
Wooster (1-0) will get right back to it on Sunday when they host Case Western Reserve University in its home opener at 3 p.m.
