TIFFIN – There's something about Heidelberg that turns Mason Garza into a scoring machine as his two goals on Wednesday lifted The College of Wooster men's soccer team to a 3-0 win.
Garza has scored against Heidelberg in each of his last three contests against the club. Of his six career goals, four have come against the team from Tiffin.
Wednesday also marked his first multi-goal game.
The senior gave Wooster an early boost, scoring in the 10th minute. He created some space on a breakaway and scored high and right into the back of the goal.
Before the end of the first half, a trip up in the box led to a penalty kick for the Scots which was successfully connected on by Zach Napora. Napora went left while the keeper went right, giving the Scots a 2-0 lead entering halftime.
It was his first goal of the year and third of his career.
Garza's second goal came in the 68th minute, connecting from the left side just outside of the goal box.
Wooster was dominant throughout, outshooting Heidelberg 24-9 with 13 shots on goal and 10 corner kicks.
Gabriel Thomas started in goal and got the win. First-year Eddie Glucksman played the second half for his first minutes of his Wooster career.
Wooster improves to 3-2 with the win while Heidelberg drops to 0-2-1.
The Scots will have two more road contests this weekend. They start with a trip to Guilford College on Saturday.
