HIRAM – The College of Wooster men's soccer team moved to 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play with a 3-1 win at Hiram College on Wednesday.
Junior Elliot Miller led the way, scoring twice for the Scots. He started scoring when senior
Mason Garza fought off a trio of defenders to get a cross off, finding a wide-open Miller who scored on an easy header in the 12th minute.
Hiram (3-5-2, 0-2 NCAC) got one back by keeping Wooster goalie Andrew Beazley busy. After the senior made a save, which put him out of position, Hiram's Erik Rangel Negrete scored on a strike to tie the game.
For Wooster, they did not lay down and scored twice before the end of the half.
Sophomore Griffin Thornton stayed with his shot, got his own rebound and hit the game winner, his first collegiate goal, in the 30th minute. Beazley sent the ball downward and the Scots acted quickly with Thornton's goal being the end result.
About four minutes later, the Scots succeeded on a corner. The initial kick resulted in a shot off the crossbar. However, Miller followed through to score his second goal of the game.
Miller doubles his goal total to four on the season. It also was his first multi-goal game as a Scot.
It was a quiet second half, which was good news for Wooster, as they left with the 3-1 win.
Beazley ended up with four saves to get the win. Hiram keeper Tyler Jurgensen made seven saves in the loss.
The Terriers outshot Wooster 15-12, but Wooster held the corner kick advantage 4-3.
Wooster is now 7-4-1 and 2-0 in the NCAC. The Scots host Wittenberg University on Sunday.
