Bio

Andy Zidron, who won two North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament titles as an assistant and an NCAC regular season championship as a player at Denison University, enters his 10th season as the head coach at The College of Wooster. Zidron is currently serving as the chair of the physical education minor.

With Zidron at the helm, Wooster has a renewed emphasis on upping the intensity level, and the staff is very intentional in establishing relationships with the student-athletes to create a Wooster soccer family, with the focus on serving one another and working hard for the team. The Scots' win total increased each year from 2016-18, with the program having its highest winning percentage since 2006 in 2018 (8-6-3). Individually, two alumni earned NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships during Zidron's tenure - Andreas Xenofontos (2020) and Wilson Freije (2021).

Prior to Wooster, Zidron spent 14 years associated with Denison University’s consistently successful program, helping the Big Red to eight top-three finishes in the conference standings and a 154-96-24 overall record (.606) during that time. With him as an assistant coach, Denison won the NCAC Tournament in both 2006 and 2009, thus receiving the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Div. III Championships field each of those seasons, and recorded eight winning seasons, including an 11-4-3 record in 2013.

Among his responsibilities, Zidron organized and implemented practice and training plans, broke down game film, identified and recruited student-athletes that matched the school’s high academic profile, which is very similar to Wooster’s, and developed team culture through defining excellence and goal setting, as well as a team mentorship program. He's implemented similar ideas at Wooster.

As a player, the Cincinnati, Ohio native (Anderson High School) was a standout defender for the Big Red. A four-year starter (73 games played), Zidron capped his career with his best season, earning all-NCAC honors for a team that was NCAC co-champions (with Wooster) and went 18-3, the winningest season in school history.

When not spending time on the Denison sideline, Zidron taught science at Liking Valley High School in Newark, Ohio (2005-14), and coached club teams with the Newark Area Soccer Association and at various camps.

Zidron and his wife, Kelly, have three children, sons Owen and Wyatt and daughter Sawyer.
