The College of Wooster men's tennis team, after suffering
through a brief two-match losing skid, rebounded in an impressive
manner Tuesday evening with a 9-0 North Coast Athletic Conference
shutout over Oberlin College on Don Hunsinger Courts.
The Scots (9-2, 1-0 NCAC East) opened North Coast Athletic
Conference Eastern Division play against the Yeomen of Oberlin
(0-13, 0-1 NCAC East), and had very little difficulty.
Continuing his strong singles play was Ethan Arenstein, who
improved to 8-3 overall in singles play by posting a 6-0, 6-0 win
at No. 4, while Matt Mandell also breezed to an easy 6-0, 6-0 win
at No. 5. Pat Grab eased through his match at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-3
victory, while the closest match of the day came at No. 2, as Matt
Hoch battled his opponent to a 6-4 first-set win, and followed that
up with a score of 6-1 in set number two. Steve Conroy was a 6-1,
6-1 winner at No. 3, and Brad Palanski was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No.
6.
In doubles action, the Scots swept all three matches. At No. 1,
Grab and Arenstein had the tightest match before prevailing 8-6,
while Hoch and Conroy were 8-2 victors at No. 2. Rounding out the
scoring Chris Collen and Palanski, who were 8-4 winners at No.
3.
Wooster will look to start another winning spurt, and record its
second conference victory, when it plays host to Allegheny College
(7-6, 0-0 NCAC East) on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
