Scots Open Up Season By Taking Down Malone 6-3

Though a week later due to an initial weather postponement, the 2010 season for The College of Wooster's men's tennis team began on a positive note Friday, as the Fighting Scots defeated Malone University 6-3 at the North Canton Racquet Club in North Canton, Ohio.

Wooster jumped out to a 2-1 lead via a pair of hard-fought doubles victories, as both Matt Hoch-Ethan Arenstein and Matt Mandell-Brad Palanski prevailed 8-6 at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively.

Then, Hoch, making his collegiate debut at No. 1 singles, added a 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 7-5 triumph for another team point. Other two-time winners for the Scots on Friday were Mandell, who cruised past his foe 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles, and Palanski, who needed a third-set super tiebreaker to prevail 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 5. Steve Conroy joined Madell with a straight-sets victory, rolling 6-3, 6-1 at the third singles spot.

Next, Wooster hosts Otterbein College (0-0) Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
