ONU Uses Momentum from Doubles to Get Past Wooster

The College of Wooster missed out on an opportunity to take a 2-1 lead during the doubles and then visiting Ohio Northern University went on to a 7-2 victory during non-conference men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at D.J. Hard Memorial Courts.

Matt Hoch and Ashvin Reddy joined forces for an 8-5 triumph at No. 1 doubles, and with the team score tied 1-1, third doubles went to a tiebreaker. Wooster (4-4) earned four match points, but could not convert as the duo from Ohio Northern (5-2) pulled out the 9-8 (9-7) triumph, thus taking the 2-1 lead into singles.

Despite several close singles matches, the Scots only managed one additional point as Steve Conroy posted a decisive 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 5 position. Also of note, freshman Alex Turner pushed his opponent to a third-set super tiebreaker before falling 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) during his collegiate debut.

Wooster hopes to bounce back on Thursday when it travels to Case Western ReserveCase Western Reserve University (7-11).
