Playing without its top player, The College of Wooster men's tennis team was involved in a number of close matches Thursday at Allegheny College, however, it couldn't muster a point as the Gators took the North Coast Athletic Conference East Division tilt 9-0.

The doubles competition saw Matt Mandell and Steve Conroy of Wooster (6-11, 1-2 NCAC East) fall just short in a 9-7 decision at the No. 2 position.

Mandell, who made the move up a spot to No. 1 singles, also pushed his opponent to the brink before dropping a third-set super tiebreaker 10-3. Mandell had won the first set 6-3 and dropped the second 6-1. Conroy put forth a strong effort in singles as well before settling for a 7-5, 6-3 setback at No. 3.

The Fighting Scots now have a little more than a week to prepare for the NCAC Tournament.
