Scots Top Oberlin 6-3 in Season's First NCAC Match

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's tennis team got back into the win column on Tuesday, as Matt Hoch secured victories at both No. 1 singles and doubles to lead a 6-3 triumph over North Coast Athletic Conference foe OberlinOberlin College at D.J. Hard Tennis Courts.

Hoch improved to 4-4 on the season in singles action with a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot, and also partnered with Ethan Arenstein to win 8-6 at No. 1 doubles. Joining Hoch as double-winners over Oberlin were No. 4 Steve Conroy (4-6, 6-1, 7-5) and No. 6 Sam Susanin (6-2, 6-0), who teamed up earlier in the match to pick up a decisive 8-2 win in No. 3 doubles competition.

Matt Mandell was the other Scot to win in singles, as he outlasted his opponent at No. 2 in a grueling 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 10-1 decision. He would also just miss out on another win at No. 2 doubles as he and Brad Palanski were upended in a wire-to-wire 9-8 (7-5) setback.

The Scots, who are now back to .500 with a 5-5 overall record, will look to make some noise this weekend at the Great Lakes Colleges Association Tournament on both Friday and Saturday.
