The College of Wooster men's tennis team got started with a convincing win at No. 1 doubles, but the momentum didn't carry over, as the Scots were dealt a 7-2 setback from Tiffin University on Thursday at Tiffin, Ohio.
Matt Hoch and Ethan Arenstein improved to 6-6 on the season at the No. 1 spot with their 8-5 win over Andres Torres and Luiz Carvahlo to begin the match, but the Scots (6-8) wrapped up doubles action down 1-2.
At No. 1 singles, Hoch almost pulled out another win, but he just missed in a 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 8-10 super tiebreaker setback. Arenstein also came up short in a closely contested 5-7, 4-6 loss at No. 3 singles.
Steve Conroy secured Wooster's lone singles triumph 6-4, 6-4 against No. 5 opponent Brian Coffman, which brings him to 9-5 in 2010.
Wooster will wrap up its regular season with three-consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference matches, starting this Saturday with a trip to Allegheny College (8-8, 0-0 NCAC) at 1 p.m.
