The College of Wooster men's tennis team competed in the Great Lakes College Association Tournament this weekend, dropping a closely contest match with Albion College 5-4, and two others matches to Oberlin College (5-2) and Kalamazoo College (9-0).
The Scots (4-9) took a 2-1 lead over Albion in doubles action, as Landon Moore and Alex Turner won at No. 2 (8-6), and David Greetham and John Schulz handled their opponents at No. 3 (8-3). In singles action, Wooster only managed to come away with two more wins, as Paul Thomas upended his No. 4 opponent (6-4, 6-4), and Greetham became a double-winner with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 5.
Wooster pushed Albion to the brink in its losses at No.1-3, as each match went to a third set, with No. 3 Zack Rotter's match going furthest in a 7-6 (8-6), 4-6, 5-7 setback.
Against Oberlin, Thomas was involved in both of Wooster's wins, as he topped his No. 4 singles opponent 6-1, 6-3, and also teamed with Nick Biniker at No. 1 doubles to record a hard-earned 9-8 (7-4) victory. Moore played well at No 1 singles, but eventually was upended 6-4, 6-4.
Finally, Kalamazoo overwhelmed the Scots in their meeting, but it was Greetham who posted the best result, as he forced his opponent to an opening-set tiebreaker before suffering a 6-7 (2-7), 0-6 defeat.
The Scots will look to get back in the win column when they host Capital University next Saturday at 4 p.m.
