With a 5-2 setback to Ohio Wesleyan University Saturday, The College of Wooster finished in eighth-place at this weekend's North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament, hosted by Oberlin College. Wooster dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 27 ranked Denison University in the quarterfinals Friday morning and lost by that same score to Wittenberg University later that day.

The Fighting Scots were much more competitive Saturday. Landon Moore and Alex Turner teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles and Wooster nearly came out of that part of the competition with the lead, but No. 3 doubles went to Ohio Wesleyan by an 8-6 count.

Turner also accounted for the Scots' second point, as he prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles. The Battling Bishops won handily at the top of the lineup (6-1, 6-1 at No. 1), but the remaining singles matches were closely contested. Wooster's Zack Rotter extended his opponent to three sets at No. 3 before falling 6-0, 1-6, 6-1 in a seesaw match, and David Greetham nearly went three dropping a second-set tiebreaker in a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) decision. With the outcome determined, the remaining matches were not completed.

It was an uncharacteristic, but not unexpected season for this very young Scot team, as they posted a 4-18 record. Wooster's top-four players were all freshman.
