The College of Wooster men's tennis team nearly made it a clean sweep during the 2011-12 opener, cruising past Capital University 7-1 on Sept. 29 in a non-conference match played in the Columbus, Ohio area.

The doubles matches were closely contested, with Wooster taking two of three. At the No. 2 position, Nick Biniker and Zack Rotter picked up a point for the Fighting Scots via a 9-7 triumph, and Jacob Pine and John Schulz followed with an 8-5 decision at the third spot.

In singles play, Kyle Lahman made an impressive debut, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top of the lineup. Noteworthy, Wooster's returning No. 1 player Landon Moore did not play due to illness. Rotter was equally as dominant as Lahman, posting a 6-0, 6-1 score line in his favor at No. 4, while the other completed matches (No. 2 singles did not finish) played out similarly.

Paul Thomas at No. 3, James Parker at No. 5, and Schulz at No. 6 all prevailed in first-set tiebreakers and then went on to decisive second-set victories. Thomas won 7-6 (7-4), 6-0, Parker 7-6 (9-7), 6-0, and Schulz 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

The Scots' fall season continues Tuesday when they host Malone University.
