Close Singles Matches Go to Little Giants in 8-1 Loss

The College of Wooster men's tennis team lost a series of close sets in singles, and ultimately the match, as Wabash College's 8-1 decision over the Fighting Scots Saturday at Oberlin, Ohio, was much more competitive than the final score indicates.

After a sweep in doubles, all six singles positions were highly-competitive. Milo Saurman gave Wooster (0-3) its only team point via a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 6, and the match might have swung if the Fighting Scots won some tiebreakers. At the top flight, Landon Moore extended his opponent to a second-set tiebreak before succumbing 6-1, 7-6 (1), Paul Thomas dropped a tiebreak in the first set during his 7-6 (4), 6-3 setback at No. 2, and the theme continued at the fifth spot where Willy Nelson fell 7-6 (4), 6-2.

While they didn't play a tiebreak at the No. 3 slot, Wooster's Harrison Suttle lost another close one by the line of 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.

Next Friday, the Scots host Malone University (0-1) inside the Scot Center at 4 p.m.
