The College of Wooster men's tennis team picked up its first win of the spring Friday evening, as the Fighting Scots bested northeast Ohio foe Malone University 6-3 at the Scot Center courts in Wooster, Ohio.
Without No. 1 player Landon Moore in the lineup, the Scots (1-3) showed their depth by sweeping singles matches 3-6, and also took victories in two of three doubles contests.
Three of Wooster's singles wins came courtesy of first-years, with Harrison Suttle triumphing at the No. 3 spot (6-3, 6-2), Willy Nelson at No. 4 (6-1, 6-0), and Milo Saurman at No. 5 (6-2, 6-2). Also picking up a win was Zack Rotter with a 6-1, 6-1 decision in the sixth spot.
In doubles, Nelson and Saurman conceded just a point in a dominant 8-1 victory at No. 2, while teammates Rotter and John Schulz ran away with the No. 3 match by an 8-2 margin.
The Scots will look to build off this victory tomorrow when they visit another local opponent, John Carroll University, beginning at 2 p.m.
