The College of Wooster won three singles matches that went to a decisive third set, paving the way for a 7-2 victory over John Carroll University in non-conference men's tennis action at the Paramount Tennis Club in Medina, Ohio, on Friday night.
Wooster (3-1) opened up a 2-1 lead by winning at first and third doubles, with Harrison Suttle and Jack Buchan comfortably getting past their opponents at the top of the lineup, 8-4, and Jacob Pine and Willy Nelson posting a similar score line of 8-5 at the latter position.
It was nearly 3-0 at the outset, but the pair of Titas Bera and Milo Saurman dropped a tough 9-7 decision at No. 2.
After John Carroll (0-4) evened the match at two with a triumph at first singles, the Scots took the rest of the team points, highlighted by Suttle and Buchan prevailing by identical scores of 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 at the second and third spots, respectively.
Pine and Nelson rolled at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, also notching matching sets of 6-1, 6-2, while Saurman closed out the match with a hard-fought 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 win at No. 5.
Wooster, which won both of its February matches 7-2 against Ohio Athletic Conference schools, is off from competition until its spring break trip to Orlando, Fla.
