Elkins' Match-Clincher Against Regionally-Ranked Wabash Lands Junior NCAC Player-of-the-Week Honor

 Davis Elkins

Davis Elkins from The College of Wooster men's tennis team was tabbed as the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player-of-the-Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Elkins clinched the 5-4 win on Saturday over regionally-ranked Wabash College out of the fourth singles flight. The junior fought back after losing the first set 6-4 by taking the second by an identical score, but was down a break again in the third. After getting the break back, Elkins proceeded to win the last two games to give Wooster its first win of the season against a regionally-ranked opponent in 11 chances.

Earlier in the match against the Little Giants, Elkins teamed with Jack Buchan at the top of the doubles lineup, and the duo strung together an impressive 8-6 win over the region's sixth-ranked doubles tandem.

On Friday, Buchan and Elkins had an 8-3 win in doubles during a tight 5-4 setback against Ohio Wesleyan University.

Elkins is the third Fighting Scot to earn the NCAC Athlete-of-the-Week honor this year joining Kieran McTague (March 7) and Titas Bera (March 21).

Wooster opens up play at the NCAC Tournament this Friday with a 9 a.m. match against 17th-ranked Kenyon College at Granville, Ohio.
