Buchan and Elkins Earn First-Team All-NCAC Honors to Headline Scots' All-Conference Honorees

 Jack Buchan
 Davis Elkins

Juniors Jack Buchan and Davis Elkins earned first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in doubles, while sophomore Titas Bera and Buchan collected second-team and honorable mention All-NCAC certificates in singles, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Buchan and Elkins, who did not join forces in the doubles' lineup until the spring, provided a big spark out of the first flight, most notably against regionally-ranked foes. The electrifying duo trounced Denison University's ninth-ranked regional doubles team 8-3 on March 30, giving the Fighting Scots their first point in a match against a nationally-ranked NCAC team since 2009. Then, on April 23, Buchan and Elkins topped Wabash College's sixth-ranked regional doubles pair 8-6 in a back-and-forth thriller of an eventual 5-4 Wooster win.

The top doubles flight perhaps saved their best outing for the NCAC Tournament where Buchan and Elkins dropped the third-ranked doubles duo in the region from Kenyon College 8-6.

Overall, Buchan and Elkins posted a 12-8 mark as doubles partners.

Notable, Buchan and Elkins are the first doubles team to earn first-team all-conference laurels since Nikhil Gonsalves and Nilesh Saldanha did so in 2004.

Bera, who earned his second straight second-team all-conference certificate, finished his sophomore season with an 11-15 record in dual matches out of the top flight. Bera played seven matches against regionally-ranked opponents this season, including a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win over Carthage College's Alex Boomgarden on March 20.

Of note, Bera had a seven-match win streak at No. 1 singles during the team's Florida trip, marking the longest win streak by a No. 1 singles player since 2003. Additionally, the sophomore earned a pair of appearances in the ITA's regional singles' rankings.

Buchan, the first Scot to earn all-conference honors in singles and doubles in the same season since 2006, posted a 10-15 singles mark in dual matches out of the second flight.

The men's tennis team turned in a 10-16 record with a 0-4 mark in NCAC East Division play. Despite the record the Scots were right there on numerous occasions with 10 matches ending with a 5-4 score. Wooster went 4-6 on the year in those 10 matches.
