A tight doubles flight led John Carroll University to a 7-2 win over The College of Wooster men's tennis on Saturday afternoon at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio.
Wooster's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams fell by a break each, as sophomore Nathan Devereux and first-year Joaquin Abos Amo fell 9-7 at No. 1 while senior Titas Bera and junior Jesse DeWitt lost 8-6 at No. 2. In the third doubles flight, Wooster's Andrew Long and Jorrit de Rouw lost 8-3.
In singles, Bera and Abos Amo came out victorious, with Bera taking down John Carroll's Gustavo Garcia 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 while Abos Amo triumphed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4.
Devereux and de Rouw both lost tight three-setters after the Blue Streaks had clinched. Devereux, at No. 3, won the first set in a tiebreaker before dropping the next two, 6-1, 1-0 (9).
At No. 6, de Rouw split the first two sets before losing in a third-set super tiebreaker, 10-5.
Up next, Wooster hosts the University of Wis.-Whitewater on Saturday, March 3 at 1 p.m. at Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.
