Scots Fall to Regionally-Ranked Warhawks

DELAWARE, Ohio -- The College of Wooster men's tennis team lost to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 8-1 on Saturday in Delaware, Ohio.

First-year Alex Drewes gave Wooster its lone win in the final match of the evening. He defeated Brendan Pietila 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) after a shortened third set.

The Scots lost in straight sets in the rest of the singles matches.

Alon Liberman fell 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 flight. Joaquin Abos Amo lost at the No. 2 flight 6-1, 6-4, and Nathan Devereux took a 6-1, 6-1 loss at the No. 3 spot.

At the No. 4 flight, Austin Hanna fell 6-3, 6-1, and at No. 5, Nebyou Minassie lost after a tough second set 6-1, 7-6 (7-4).

In doubles competition, the No. 1 team of Liberman and Devereux as well as the No. 3 team Abos Amo and Drewes took 8-3 losses. Finally, Hanna and Nivaan Lovo fell 8-5 in the No. 2 spot.

Wisconsin-Whitewater, who is ranked ninth regionally, moves to 10-1, while Wooster drops to 4-3.

The Scots return to action March 6 when they host Hope College at the Aspen Racquet Club.
