ORLANDO, Fla. – The College of Wooster men's tennis team is on a roll and has now won seven of its last eight matches, as the Fighting Scots turned aside Millsaps College 8-1 and NCAA Div. II Stonehill College 6-1 on Thursday. The Scots' annual spring trip started with a 4-3 win over Div. II Dallas Baptist University on Monday.

Wooster (8-3) won the doubles point against Dallas Baptist, a match that was played under Div. II rules, where there's no-advantage scoring, and only one match point in doubles play. Sophomore Alon Liberman and senior Nathan Devereux topped Dallas Baptist's Gabe Garrido and Josh Williams 6-4 at No. 1, while sophomore Austin Hanna and junior Joaquin Abos Amo pinned a 6-1 score on Hunter Terrell and Aaron Capone.

The match against Dallas Baptist was ultimately clinched at No. 6 singles, where Wooster first-year Alex Drewes squared off against Dallas Baptist senior Jacob Delao. That match came down to a third-set super tiebreaker, where Drewes prevailed 12-10. Drews took the first set 6-3, while Delao won set two 6-4.

Elsewhere in singles play, Abos Amo won 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 2 and Hanna won 6-4, 7-6 (5) at No. 4.

Wooster swept all three doubles points against Millsaps, with Devereux and Liberman winning 8-3 at No. 1, Abos Amos and Drewes winning 8-4 at No. 2, and Hanna and first-year Nivaan Lobo winning 8-7 (4) at No. 3.

In singles play, Liberman and Abos Amo posted matching 6-2, 6-4 scores against John Kimball and Brandon Beck, respectively, in the top two flights, while Devereux backed that up with matching 6-1 scores in the third flight.

Further down the lineup, Hanna won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 and Drewes took the sixth flight against Millsaps 6-3, 6-0.

Of note, Davis Elkins, one of Wooster's winningest doubles players is the head coach at Millsaps.

In Thursday's finale, Wooster won all three doubles matches, although only two were needed to secure the single doubles point due to playing under Div. II rules. Hanna and Devereux won 6-4 at No. 1, Liberman and Abos Amo were victorious by a 6-1 count at No. 2, and Drewes and sophomore Nebyou Minassie won 6-3 at No. 3.

All five Scots who won in singles did so in straight sets. Liberman (6-3, 6-2) took the top flight, as did Abos Amo (6-4, 6-2) at No. 2, Devereux (6-2, 6-2) at No. 3, and Hanna (6-2, 6-1) at No. 4.

Further down the lineup, Minassie climbed out of a 5-1 hole to force a tiebreaker in set one, and then had another rally in him. In the tiebreaker, Minassie overcame a 5-0 deficit en route to winning his match 7-6 (7), 6-0.

Wooster has two more matches currently schedule on its trip – Kenyon College on Saturday, March 14 at 11:30 a.m. and Bethel University (Minn.) at 3 p.m. on Monday, March 15.
