SPRINGFIELD – The regionally ranked College of Wooster men's tennis team took down Wittenberg University 5-4 on Sunday in a non-divisional conference matchup.
The match was tied 4-4 with the No. 3 flight left to be decided. In the only flight to reach three sets, Alex Drewes downed his opponent 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Prior, Wooster took the No. 2 doubles flight in its only doubles win. The team of Drewes and Shivam Dewan won 8-1. The No. 1 team of Alon Liberman and Austin Hanna fell 8-6, and the No. 3 team of Patrick Johnson and Kevin Si fell 8-3.
Wooster won three other singles flights outside of Drewes. Liberman, ranked 15th individually in the region, captured a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 1 flight.
Hanna won 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 flight, and Johnson won 6-2, 7-6 (5) in the No. 5 flight.
Dewan fell 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 flight, and Si lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Wooster moves to 8-5 overall, while Wittenberg drops to 5-9. The Scots host Kenyon College in conference play on Wednesday.
