Match-Clincher Against Wittenberg Turns Into NCAC Honor For Drewes

Alex Drewes, Wooster Tennis The College of Wooster's Alex Drewes delivered the match-clincher against archnemesis Wittenberg University on Sunday, and that resulted in the Fighting Scots' junior earning North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors following a 4-0 weekend.

The outcome of one of four Wooster-Wittenberg head-to-head contests this weekend came down to third singles, where Drewes and Joe Patton split sets. Drewes went on to take the third to win 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, and secure the victory for the regionally-ranked Scots.

Earlier in the weekend, Drewes and sophomore Kevin Si beat Wabash College's third doubles flight, 8-3, and in singles, Drewes won 6-3, 6-1 against the Little Giants. Drewes moved up to second doubles against Wittenberg and won 8-1 alongside sophomore Shivam Dewan.

Next, Wooster opens NCAC East Division play on Wednesday against 24th-ranked Kenyon College (5-6, 0-0 NCAC East). First serve is set for 4 p.m.
