First-years Lead Way for Scots at ITA Regionals

VanOyen and Dixit KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The College of Wooster men's tennis team took four student-athletes to Kalamazoo College to compete in the 2023 ITA Division III Men's Central Regional Championships this weekend.

Wooster showed some decent outings in their final competition of the fall season, taking three first-years and senior Shivam Dewan on the trip.

In singles play, first-year Jay Dixit won in the first round, 6-2, 6-0 against Principia College. Dixit then held the advantage in the second round with a first set win over a top 40 player from last season, University of Chicago's Arjun Asokumar, but Dixit ultimately fell 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (5).

First-year Anthony VanOyen also gave Wooster a first-round win and took a 6-2, 6-1 match in the first round over Adrian College's Kasper Olofsson. VanOyen then fell to John Carroll University's Logan Langovsky 6-3, 6-2, in the second round.

First-year Arnav Yadav fell to Shawn Lisann of North Coast Athletic Conference foe Oberlin College in the first round, 7-5, 6-4.

Yadav then took a 6-0, 6-0 win over August Sack from Alma College. He also defeated Mark Siriwanichul from Ohio Wesleyan University, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 1-0 (4). 

Finally, in doubles play, VanOyen teamed with Dewan as they took an 8-6 win in its first match, against Wittenberg University's Kyle Fout and Ethan Libby. The Wooster duo then lost to another NCAC duo in the Kenyon College pair of Eliezer Gonzalez and Paulo Pocasangre, 8-4.

Wooster will return to the court next year.
