Bio
The College of Wooster named Shaun Keenan as the 14th head men's tennis head coach in school history in summer 2024. Keenan takes over for interim head coach Amy Behrman who led the team to a 9-10 record last year and a quarterfinal berth in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.
Keenan comes to Wooster after serving as the director of racquets at Fairlawn Country Club in Akron and director of racquets at Paramount Tennis Club in Medina, positions he has held for over 10 years.
Keenan brings plenty of Div. III tennis experience to the College, having been the head men's and women's tennis coach at John Carroll for 13 years from 2010-22.
In his time at John Carroll, he won 11 Ohio Athletic Conference championships and was a five-time OAC Coach of the Year. He was named the 2022 United States Professional Tennis Association Midwest College Coach of the Year and the 2017 Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Div. III Women's Central Region Coach of the Year.
In addition, he made 11 NCAA Div. III Championships appearances – six on the men's side and five on the women's. In OAC action, he had unbeaten streaks of 61 on the men's side and 55 on the women's side. Individually, Lauren O'Malley was a three-time All-American and was selected as the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-American® of the Year for women's at-large sports in 2019.
As the director of racquets, Keenan developed United States Tennis Association adult teams and junior interclub programs while teaching all levels and ages of tennis and pickleball. He is a USPTA Elite Professional 1 and a USPTA/IFP Academy certified pickleball instructor.
Keenan earned a bachelor's degree in international business from Wichita State University in 1998 and earned his master's degree in business administration and management in 2000 from the University of Louisiana. At Wichita, Keenan was a top-20-ranked doubles player and was ranked within the top-100 in NCAA Div. I singles. Prior to college, he was ranked No. 2 in Western Australia under 18's and 10th overall.
