Yellow Jacket Bats Come Alive in 9-0, 12-2 Doubleheader Sweep

WOOSTER, Ohio - The Baldwin-Wallace College pitching staff gave up just two runs and eight hits combined on the afternoon, with both tallies coming in the bottom of the fifth inning for Wooster during game two of a scheduled non-conference doubleheader, as the visiting Yellow Jackets went on to sweep The College of Wooster softball team Tuesday by 9-0 and 12-2 scores.

Baldwin-Wallace (12-8) starting pitcher Sarah Baker fired a four-hitter in the opener, striking out two, not giving up a walk, surrendering just two singles by Priscilla Staples in the first and sixth, a Gwen Davis single in the third, and a Rachel Gaines single in the fourth, as she improved to 6-4 on the season.

The visitors plated a single run in the fourth inning on Caitlin Myor's seventh home run over the left-center field fence. The Yellow Jackets then exploded for eight runs on nine hits in the top of the sixth off Wooster starter Katie Pifer, as she took the loss in the circle for the Fighting Scots.

In game two, Baldwin-Wallace smacked 14 hits in the contest, as nine different players collected a hit, and seven players tallied an RBI to lead the offensive barrage.

The Scots (2-18) picked up their two singles in the first four innings of play, when Kim Skully laced a ball to right-center field in the first, and Kelley smacked a hit back up the middle in the fourth.

However, in the fifth inning, Wooster began to put something together against Baldwin-Wallace southpaw starter Mackenzie Rohrbacher. Fighting Scot pinch-hitter Marissa Stover drew a one-out walk, advanced to second on a Yellow Jacket fielding error, moved over to third on a single to left-center off the bat of classmate Lauren Swinehart. Then, Stover and Rachel Frank, who reached via the error, came around to score Wooster's two runs on an RBI single to right field by Staples. But, Rohrbacher got out of the jam, and improved to 5-4 overall.

Kelley was credited with the loss in the circle, throwing five complete innings, giving up 12 runs, 10 earned, while fanning three, and walking three batters, as her record dips to 2-8 on the spring.

The Scots will be right back in action on Wednesday when they open up North Coast Athletic Conference play against Hiram College (13-5, 0-0 NCAC), with the first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
