Lauren Swinehart provided the heroics in game one against Allegheny College, as she hit a two-out grand slam in the top of the eighth inning that gave The College of Wooster a much-needed 8-4 victory Thursday evening at Robertson Field in Meadville, Pa. The Scots went on to win game two by a score of 4-0.

Wooster (11-17, 3-5 NCAC), which had led Allegheny (5-17, 2-6 NCAC) 3-0 early, needed a dramatic double-steal to tie the game 4-4 in the fifth inning. Danielle Grooms took off from first base, forcing the catcher to attempt to throw her out at second, and in the process Gina Pirolozzi raced home to knot the game.

The contest remained deadlocked at 4-4 until the eighth inning, when the Scots, who had two outs against them, managed to load up the bases. After Rachel Frank drew a walk, Kelley Johnson reached on an error, and Erica Villa was also walked, Swinehart came to the plate and launched a deep shot to right centerfield that gave Wooster its 8-4 margin.

Pirolozzi (3-6), who didn't allow an earned run over her 6.1 innings of work, gave up only a harmless single in the bottom of the eighth to seal the victory.

Jenn Horton highlighted the second game, as she allowed just five hits and no earned runs in the circle, and went 2-for-4 with a home run at the plate.

If the weather cooperates, the Scots will be back in action Friday with a home doubleheader against archrival Wittenberg University (9-18, 3-5 NCAC) at 3:30 p.m.
