Jenn Horton |
For the second time this season, College of Wooster junior Jenn Horton has been named North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, as she went 4-0 in the circle and led the Fighting Scots to their program-best 21st win.
Horton made four appearances last week, and recorded a win each time, while posting a 1.83 ERA over 23.0 innings of work. The two-time all-conference pick struck out 22 batters and allowed just one walk, while giving up only three extra-base hits (all doubles).
She got the week started with a three-hit shutout against Denison University, where she struck out 10 batters without surrendering a walk. Next up, Horton added a 3-1 complete-game victory over Otterbein University, in which she fanned seven more and again did not issue a free pass.
During a doubleheader with Kenyon College on Sunday, she entered the first game in relief and did not allow a run in the two extra innings of the 7-5 win. She then notched a 7-6 complete-game victory in the second game, which gave the Scots 21 wins on the season, the most ever in program history.
Horton is 11-6 with a 1.97 ERA on the season, and will look to carry her positive momentum into a twinbill with Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
