Lauren Swinehart drove in the game-winner in the opener, and Jenn Horton pitched a two-hit shutout in the nightcap, highlighting The College of Wooster's 6-5, 3-0 doubleheader sweep over North Coast Athletic Conference foe Ohio Wesleyan University Tuesday.

Entering the sixth inning, the Scots (23-11, 9-5 NCAC) trailed game one 2-0 and had recorded just one base hit, but Gina Pirolozzi kicked off the frame with her second home run of the season to spark an offensive surge.

Danielle Grooms and Erica Villa each singled moments later, and then Demi Hart stroked a two-run double to left-center field to give Wooster a sudden 3-2 lead. On the very next at bat, Horton singled up the middle of the infield to score Hart and push the advantage to 4-2.

The Bishops (13-19, 6-8 NCAC) responded in the top of the seventh, though, when Cassi Ladina hit a double that plated a pair and tied the game 4-4. Wooster came up empty in the bottom of the inning, extending the tilt to extras.

In the eighth, Chelsea Denman used a sacrifice fly to score the runner on third, giving the Bishops a 5-4 lead with a chance to close out the game. The Scots were not done, however, as Paige Goldberg scored the tying run on an error, and later, Swinehart ripped an RBI single through the left side to score the winning run.

In game two, Horton struck out eight batters and allowed just two hits, and the Scots' offense came up with some timely hits to pick up the win.

Skye Patterson got Wooster on the scoreboard in the fourth inning with a single that plated Grooms, and on the same play, an error occurred that allowed Pirolozzi to come around and score as well to make it 2-0.

The Scots manufactured another run in the sixth, when Carly Schoenstein singled, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout, and finally came home to score on a passed ball.

On the day, Wooster stole three bases, pushing their season total to an even 50, the highest mark ever in program history (49, 2005).

Hart led the offense in the opener (2-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs), while Villa was the only Scot to record three hits in all (3-for-7) in the doubleheader. Also noteworthy, pitcher Horton notched victories in both games, as she entered in relief in the lid-lifter, pushing her record to 13-6 on the year.

Wooster, which would occupy the second seed in the NCAC Tournament if the season ended today, will wrap up the conference portion of its schedule Saturday when it hosts Oberlin College at 1 p.m.
