WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster softball team batted around in its doubleheader with Oberlin College, smacking 21 hits in all, and swept the visiting Yeowomen 6-1, 6-3 on Sunday. In doing so, the Fighting Scots clinched the No. 2 seed in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

In game one, the Scots (25-11, 11-5 NCAC) put two runs on the board in both the first and second innings, as Jenn Horton, Lauren Swinehart, and Demi Hart each picked up RBI's, and Skye Patterson advanced to home on an error, giving Wooster an early 4-0 cushion.

Swinehart led off the third with her fifth triple of the season, and on the very next at bat, Carly Schoenstein drove her in with a blooper to right field, extending the lead to 5-0. Schoenstein agains delivered an RBI in the fourth frame to complete Wooster's six-run effort.

The Yeowomen (14-26, 4-12 NCAC) collected three hits and scored a run in the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough to tarnish a strong outing from pitcher Gina Pirolozzi, who allowed just five hits and struck out six in the complete game victory.

The second game started off as a pitcher's duel, as the team's had combined for just five hits through the first four innings, including an RBI from Horton that put Wooster ahead 1-0 in the first frame.

The Scots' offense exploded in the fifth, though, as the team batted through the order en route to five-running inning, which was highlighted by a three-run triple off the bat of Hart, followed by a two-run homer by Horton.

Leading 6-0 heading into the seventh, Oberlin again made some noise late, as they touched up Horton for three runs on three hits before the Scots escape the jam. Horton improved to 14-6 with the win.

Schoenstein paced Wooster in the opener, recording the second three-hit game of her career (3-for-4) while driving in a pair of runs. On the day, Erica Villa went 4-for-7 with three runs scored, and Hart was 3-for-5 with three RBI.

Wooster will play a non-conference double-header at Heidelberg University (16-20) tomorrow beginning at 6 p.m., before it makes its first NCAC Tournament appearance since 2005 later in the week.
