Scots’ Six-Game Win Streak Snapped by ‘Berg

The College of Wooster softball team had its recent run of victories halted Monday evening, as Heidelberg University dealt the Fighting Scots a pair of defeats, 12-1 and 1-0, in a non-conference doubleheader at Tiffin, Ohio.

The Scots (25-13) lost uncharacteristically in game one, as they allowed season-highs in hits (16) and runs (12). The 'Berg (18-20) did their damage in two explosive, and identical innings, as they racked up seven hits and six runs in both the second and fourth frames.

The nightcap was a pitcher's duel that ended prematurely due to rain. Allie Webb was making her first start of the season, and the junior relief pitcher was impressive, allowing five hits and one earned run over four solid innings of work. Meanwhile, Heidelberg's Lexie Pinkelman had a no-hitter going through five innings, although she did allow four walks, two of which came in the fourth inning.

On the day, Wooster managed just three hits, coming off the bats of Paige Goldberg, Carly Schoenstein, and Lauren Swinehart in the opening game. The Scots noticeably rested pitcher Jenn Horton (14-6, 1.29 ERA) and Demi Hart (.457, 19 RBI) heading into this weekend's action.

Wooster will play in its first North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament game in six years when it faces DePauw University on Friday in Meadville, Pa. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
