Wooster Swept by DePauw on Pair of Walk-Offs

The College of Wooster received a solid effort from its pitching staff Sunday, as Gina Pirolozzi, Jenn Horton, and Allie Webb kept DePauw University's bats in check for most of their 16.1 combined innings of work, but the Tigers were incredibly clutch in the closing moments of both games, as they won twice with walk-off hits to sweep the Fighting Scots 3-1 and 3-2 in a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Greencastle, Ind.

Wooster (12-12, 1-5 NCAC) and DePauw (16-12, 10-0 NCAC) needed extra innings to decide the opener, as the teams scored unearned runs in the third and fifth inning, respectively, and the score remained knotted 1-1 all the way into the 10th inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the 10th, DePauw stunned the Scots with a double from Jennifer Ridge and then a home run from Amy Hallett, which spoiled an otherwise solid outing from Pirolozzi in the circle.

The second game was eerily similar, as another low-scoring pitcher's duel led to Wooster and DePauw entering the seventh inning tied at two apiece.

It was Hallett who provided the heroics once again, as she hit a two-out single to left field that drove in the winning run, which not only provided DePauw its second walk-off victory, but also pushed its record to 10-0 in the NCAC.

Offensively, Demi Hart and Aundrea Atwell each went 2-for-4 in game one, and Paige Goldberg and Carly Schoenstein went 2-for-3 in game two.

The Scots will look to earn some key NCAC wins tomorrow when they host rival Wittenberg University (13-6, 4-4 NCAC) for a doubleheader that starts at 2 p.m.
