WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster bounced back from its second extra-inning loss in as many days to take down Wittenberg University 5-1 in the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Scots lost the opener 7-2 in 10 innings.

In the victory, the Scots (13-13, 2-6 NCAC) tacked on a run in the bottom of the first inning after Paige Goldberg led off with a triple, and Erica Villa plated her with a sacrifice bunt.

Wooster then added all of the cushion it needed in the second inning, as it batted through the entire lineup and put a four-spot on the scoreboard. Taylor Raybuck drew a bases loaded walk that scored the first run, and shortly after, Villa drove in her second run of the game with a single to right field. Finally, Demi Hart hit a two-run single to left center field, as part of her 3-for-3 effort at the plate, which gave the Scots an early 5-0 advantage.

Wittenberg's (14-7, 5-5 NCAC) lone run of the game was an unearned tally in the fourth inning, which was the only blemish on an otherwise strong victory for the Scots.

Jenn Horton allowed just six hits, all singles, and didn't walk a batter while picking up her sixth win of the season. She struck out four.

The opening game was much too similar to yesterday's games against DePauw University, as pitcher Gina Pirolozzi was solid over 10 innings of work, but eventually, Wittenberg was able to manufacture some late runs to spoil the outing.

The score was tied 2-2 entering the 10th inning, and Pirolozzi had allowed just five hits to that point. Wittenberg took a one-run lead with an RBI single from Kaitie Harrison, and a few plays later, it executed a double steal that scored another runner to make it 4-2. The Tigers went on to add three more runs, which were aided by a defensive miscue, and suddenly, the game was out of reach.

Wooster gained a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run from Carly Schoenstein, and it tied the game at two apiece in the fifth on an RBI double off the bat of Hart.

Overall, it was Hart that led the way offensively, as she went 5-for-8 with three RBI during the doubleheader, while Kasey Fiedler, Goldberg, and Schoenstein each collected three hits.

Next, Wooster visits Denison University (15-11, 5-3 NCAC) for a doubleheader Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
